Documenting Mexico
Small-group bilingual photography experiences for curious travelers who want to see beyond the surface.
DSLR, mirrorless, film, iPhone - all are welcome.
This Isn’t a Tour Bus.
Most people visit a place. Few learn to see it.
Documenting Mexico was created for those who want to slow down, photograph intentionally, and experience culture with context, not just capture it.
• Learn to see light, not just settings
• Photograph with cultural awareness
• Build confidence behind your lens
• Experience Mexico beyond the checklist
• Connect with other curious creatives
Why We Created This.
Mexico is layered with story.
In its pueblos and fishing villages.
In fireworks over colonial streets.
In mangroves, markets, mountains, and coastlines.
We care deeply about preserving culture and about honoring the people, spaces, and traditions that shape this country.
Most people visit places. Very few truly see them.
We created Documenting Mexico to invite something slower.
To offer space for observation, conversation, and intentional image-making.
This is a curated cultural photography experience, not a classroom-style workshop.
We guide organically throughout the day, sharing how we approach light, timing, and context.
We close the experience with mezcal at our home and a thoughtful debrief. For those who wish, we can review images, answer questions, and continue the conversation there.
Who This Is For
For the traveler who wants more than a seat on a tour bus.
For those who don’t just want to be driven to a location and told where to stand.
For those who aren’t interested in crowding around a lead photographer, shooting over shoulders, hoping to “get the shot.”
This is not a checklist tour, or a high-priced workshop.
It’s a small, intentional group of curious people.
We offer:
Space to observe.
Space to ask questions.
Space to experiment.
Space to refine your eye.
You’re welcome whether you shoot on an iPhone, a DSLR, mirrorless, or film.
You don’t need to be a professional, just a desire to see differently.

About us
A wedding and portrait photographer for over 12 years, Tiarra’s work centers on connection, emotion, and natural light. Living in Mexico for the past three years, her focus has expanded toward documenting place and culture with presence and intention.
A recognized documentary & audiovisual photographer, Fernando documents indigenous communities, traditions, and everyday life across Mexico. His work is rooted in preservation, respect, and truth.
Together, we are passionate about honoring the places we enter and guiding others to photograph them with care.
If you’re ready to see Mexico beyond the surface, we would be honored to guide you.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Not at all.
You’re welcome to bring whatever you shoot with DSLR, mirrorless, film, or iPhone. What matters most to us is how you see, not what you carry.
If you’re working with professional gear, we’ll help you refine your approach and expand your portfolio.
If you’re newer or usually shoot in auto mode, we’ll guide you toward understanding light, composition, and intention in a way that feels approachable. This is about perspective first, equipment second.
-
Beginner to intermediate is perfect.
This is not a technical photo workshop. We won’t be standing in front of a whiteboard breaking down camera settings.
Instead, we guide in real time sharing how we approach light, timing, storytelling, and respectful engagement.
If you’re curious and open, you’ll fit right in.
Because our groups are intentionally small (maximum six participants), there’s space to offer hands-on support for those who want it and creative freedom for those who don’t.
-
That’s completely okay.
We guide the experience bilingually (English & Spanish), and we’re mindful about how we enter spaces and engage with local communities.
Part of what makes Documenting Mexico different is that we prioritize context and respect. You’ll never feel lost or unsure of what’s happening.
-
Mexico doesn’t stop for weather and neither do we.
If conditions shift, we adapt thoughtfully. Sometimes overcast skies offer incredible softness and texture. If weather becomes unsafe or significantly disruptive, we’ll communicate clearly and adjust the itinerary accordingly.
Our goal is always to create a meaningful experience not rush through a checklist.
-
Because group size is limited, we require a deposit to reserve your spot.
Deposits are non-refundable but transferable to a future tour date if cancellation is made at least 14 days in advance.
If cancellation occurs within 14 days, the deposit is forfeited unless we’re able to fill your spot.
We’ll always communicate transparently and do our best to be fair.
